General Note:
Present at the meeting from the Trust are: Enid Pinkney, Maud Newbold, Eugenia B. Thomas, Mark Walters, M. Athalie Range, Miguel Germain, Bernice Sawyer, and Gustavo Godoy. Before the meeting begins, the Trust holds a moment of silence for Arthur E. Teele. During this meeting, the Trust presents Bernice Sawyer with two commendations; one from the city of Miami and one from the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust Board. Next, the Trust listens to a presentation from Mabel Miller who approaches the Trust about establishing a campground on the park for the city's youth. Then, the Trust listens to three presentations regarding potential designs for the Virginia Key Beach Park Museum and Cultural Center. Before the presentations begins, Executive Director David Shorter provides a synopsis about the process of how design competition for the museum and cultural center. Each team will provide details about themselves, highlights of their past work, and their current thinking regarding design. AARRIS Architect is the first team to present their museum design and concepts to the Trustee board. Following their presentations, AARRIS Architect fields questions from the board regarding their qualifications and designs. Next, BEA Huff Gooden Architects present their plans for the Virginia Key Beach Park Museum and Cultural Center. During their presentation, BEA presents two schemes for the Virginia Key Beach Museum and Cultural Center and fields questions from the Trust. Next, the Trust listens to a presentation from Freelon Architects and Judson Architects, a local Miami firm. Miami's mayor Diaz makes an appearance at the meeting. Following their presentation, the Trust asks questions regarding the firm's presentation. Following all three presentations, Mayor Diaz speaks to the Trust and reveals that on August 1, 2005, the city will make that day "Historic Virginia Key Beach Park Day." Following the presentations, the Trust's nominating committee recommends Erica McKinney to replace Bernice Sawyer's position on the board. Following the discussion, the Board adjourns its meeting.
