Abstract:
Gold fan made by textile worker Nayla Llanes. Square shaped fan, decorated with cream/gold fabric, gold trim and gold metallic ribbon, with a sequin/bead peacock appliqué at the neck of the handle, and peacock feathers surrounding the patch. Commissioned and purchased for Historical Museum of Southern Florida (HistoryMiami Museum) exhibit, "At the Crossroads: Afro-Cuban Orisha Arts in Miami," February 23- August 8, 2001. This fan is decorated for the Orisha deity Oshún, whose ritual instrument is a brass fan. The fan also reflects Oshún's ritual colors of amber and yellow. ( en )
