Abstract:
Fan made by Nayla Llanes using blue/silver embossed satin fabric, metallic ribbon, beads, and sequins. White and peacock feathers protrude from edge. Wide ruled notebook covered with blue/silver embossed fabric. Front cover has raised decorative panel with female head adorned with blue/silver fabric, beads, and thread. Has five ribbon bookmarks (red, blue, yellow, white) with beads at the ends. The notebook and fan form part of a set of items that would be used in the initiation of a devotee of Yemoja, an Orisha deity. Yemojá is the mother of all waters, and her particular domain is the
ocean
. Her ritual colors are blue and opal or crystal. She is syncretized in Cuban Catholicism with Our Lady of Regla.
