520 3    |a Colorful beadwork mazo made by Miguel Sabina. Heavy beaded necklace, green and yellow beads predominantly. There are differently colored bunches of beaded tassels at intervals throughout the necklace. This mazo was commissioned and purchased especially for Historical Museum of Southern Florida (HistoryMiami Museum) exhibit, "At the Crossroads: Afro-Cuban Orisha Arts in Miami," February 23- August 8, 2001. The mazo is for Orunmila, the orisha of divination, knowledge and wisdom. Orunmila's ritual colors are green and yellow. The mazo has 16 beaded tassels (moñas) representing the 16 orishas. Mazos are one of the most complex types of beadwork, and consist of various strings of beads divided into sections called 'casetas' (huts), separated by larger beads called 'glorias'.
