Abstract:
Crown for Oshun made by Juan Gonzalez. Brass crown, with brass tools hanging down from rim on chains and a drum-shaped cutout on top. The crown is for the orisha deity Oshún, the goddess of love and sensuality, whose metal of preference is brass. The tools hanging from the crown are part of Oshún's paraphernalia, and empower the deity. This piece was commissioned and purchased especially for Historical Museum of Southern Florida (HistoryMiami Museum) exhibit, "At the Crossroads: Afro-Cuban Orisha Arts in Miami," February 23- August 8, 2001.
