Notes

Abstract:
Oceanfront and 29th Street. J. Arthur Pancoast built the first grand oceanfront hotel in Miami Beach in 1924. The Pancoast Hotel was designed by Martin L. Hampton in an Old Spanish style. Hampton had gone to Spain specifically to study designs he could incorporate into the hotel. The Pancoast was eventually demolished to make way for modern hotels. The Seville Beach Hotel, designed by Melvin Grossman, was built on the site of the former Pancoast Hotel in 1955. ( en )
