Abstract:
Shows the front facade of the hotel. The three-story wooden hotel was built on North Bimini's southern tip by Thomas J. Peters, a successful Miami commercial farmer and hotelier. Completed around 1920, the hotel was the largest in the Bahamas and boasted one of the first casinos. Peters intended to attract wealthy and well-connected guests, but as air service was not yet widely available, getting there by charter boat proved challenging. It met with limited success and was mostly shuttered by 1925. A massive hurricane in 1926 rendered the final blow as the building suffered irreparable damage. ( en )
