Abstract:
Looking west down Flagler Street, from north side of street. Loose wooden blocks are strewn across the street. The dentist office of Drs. Workman and Dudley (at 416 1/2 12th St. ) is visible across the street, as are several pedestrians. West Flagler. Solid line in center is streetcar tracks paved with bricks. -- caption on verso of photograph. Accession number 1975-023 misnumbered in 1975; applied to another set of images. To alleviate the blindingly white glare of crushed rocks, workmen paved downtown Miami's streets with wooden blocks. Unfortunately, when it rained they swelled and sometimes popped out. After a particularly bad storm in March 1919 many of the blocks came loose. ( en )
