Notes

Abstract:
Groups of people wait for the train to arrive at the 200 NW First Street depot. United States Hotel (201 NW 1st Avenue) in background. The Miami Station of the Florida East Coast Railroad was located on N. W. 1st Avenue between N. W. 2nd and 3rd Streets. Built in 1912, city leaders began lobbying the FEC as early as the 1920s, to build a better station in another location. The simple wooden buildings survived for fifty years until a wrecking ball demolished them in 1963. By this time the Florida East Coast passenger terminal was in North Miami. Passenger service ended in 1968. The old FEC downtown site now houses the Metrorail station. ( en )
