Notes

Abstract:
Shows side and back views of the hotel. The Malecon is across the street. A 1950s Cuban landmark, this project was originally given to architect Philip Johnson by Meyer Lansky ca. 1956; however, when Lansky rejected his original proposal, Johnson abandoned the project. Subsequently, Lansky handed over the Havana Riviera project to Igor B. Polevitzky, Verner Johnson & Associates, and they completed the project in 1958. The Havana Riviera remained private for only six months before being seized by Fidel Castro's government. ( en )
