General Note:
Group of men and women, White and Black, and one girl, standing in front of a horse-drawn wagon with a manatee or shell-less turtle. The women hold pans and one man holds an ax. Young girl on left is Ethel Sterling and woman in spotted top is her mother, Mary Sterling. Ethel Sterling Williams (1891-1987) arrived in Linton (now Delray Beach) Florida when she was five years old. After graduating from Wesleyan College for Women in Macon, Georgia, she returned to Delray Beach to teach. She later became the founder and first president of the Delray Beach Historical Society.
