Notes

Abstract:
Exploration for oil in the Big Cypress area of south Florida during the early 1970's caused concern that this activity might change he quality of surface water in the vicinity of the drilling sites. In late 1972 concern was intensified by the State's proposal to declare part of the Big Cypress as an area of "Critical State Concern", where development activities would be closely regulated to prevent damage to the environment. As a result of this concern the Florida Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Geological Survey during 1971-73 cooperatively investigated the quality of surface water in those areas where oil exploration was being undertaken.
