Abstract:
Albumen prints depicting prairies and hardwood hammocks. -- 1. Palmettos, pines and prairie, probably on Julia Tuttle's property in present-day Miami Shores, 1897? 1975-025-79. -- 2-4. Photos by J. N. Chamberlain. -- 2. City of Miami water well at the Miami River headwaters. Sawgrass marsh and hardwood hammock in background. 1899? X-678-1. -- 3-4. General Note:
Within 20 years, each of these locations had been developed, and have now become urban landscapes. The water well was located near present-day N.W. 21 Street and 29 Avenue (Miami, Fla.), and for a time provided the city with its drinking water.
