Scope and Content:
U.S. Navy boat towing McCurdy's plane alongside a Navy DD. Another DD and two boats are in the background. They are towing the plane of Canadian aviator and later politician John Alexander Douglas McCurdy on his semi-sucessful flight from Key West to Havana which was forced to land less than one mile (0.8 km) from its destination, the first time this feat was attempted. Photo taken on Jan. 11, 1911 and donated by Warren Henderson.
