Notes

Abstract:
Program Schedule for 21st Street Recreation Center's Grand Opening, September 7, 1985. "The 21st Street Recreation Center came to life in 1916, one year after the founding of the City of Miami Beach. Built by Carl Fisher, one of our most illustrious and flamboyant pioneers, the building originally served as the "19th hole," or clubhouse for adjacent Bayshore Golf course." "Designed with a Mediterranean motif, predated our Art Deco style of design, it's one of the city's oldest structures. This fact was recognized in 1984 when the Center was proclaimed an historic site. ... "it has played host to concerts, vaudeville, dances, community education courses and has long been the home ofthe Acorns Civic Theater and the Miami Beach Chess Club."
