Abstract:
The Purdy brothers built their boats in the infield of the Indianapolis Speedway prior to Carl Fisher bringing them to Miami Beach. They built boats in Miami Beach at Twentieth Street and Purdy Avenue, where the Miami Beach Yacht Basin was established (years before the Sunset Harbor Marina). Purdy Avenue, the short street between Twentieth Street and Dade Boulevard) was named for them. ( English )
General Note:
August 28, 1990 Memo from Norman C. Ridgely to Commissioner Bruce Singer regarding changing the name of Purdy Avenue to Sunset Harbor. Attached is article "The Commuters, Yachts in a Hurry" by C. Philip Moore published in Wooden Boat 94.
