Abstract:
Photographic illustration of the Smith's Casino in ruins after the hurricane hit Miami Beach in September 18, 1926. The Smith's Casino was built in 1910 by Avery C. Smith where the Richard S. Smith building was located at the south end of today's Ocean Drive. First it was known as Fairy-Land. At the time there was no bridge to Miami and visitors used a ferry to visit the casino. For more information about the Smith Casino and other casinos of the 1910s and 1920s see Abraham Lavender's book Miami Beach in 1920, available in the Digital Archives of Miami Beach.
