Abstract:
Hand-built model of mosque for the J.W. Smitts Tea and Coffee Company for the Dutch Pavilion at the World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, consisting of six sections and tower, painted and gilded. Electrically circuited with approximately 350 individual light sockets. Each socket holds individual small light bulbs that are wired in a series of five, six hanging brass chandelier fixtures that are installed in the grand, octagonal, mirrored ballroom in the center of the lower level. The tower has several hand-painted stained glass panel windows; the pillars and ballroom floor are painted to resemble faux-marble.
