Notes

General Note:
Present at the meeting from the Trust are: Enid Pinkney, Eugenia B. Thomas, Bernice Sawyer, Mark Walters, M. Athalie Range, Gene Tinnie, and Miguel Germain. During this meeting, the Trust listens to a presentation from the Army Corps of Engineers regarding Sections 111 and 1135 (the Ecosystem Restoration Project Section) of the Shoreline Stabilization project and the instillation of the groins on the beach. Next the Trust listens to a presentation about a proposed ecological restoration along the northern boundaries of the park and the building of an elevated boardwalk into the restored wetlands ecosystem. Next, the Trust listens to a report from Guy Forchion about transitioning from the conceptual aspects of the museum and cultural center to the practical applications of building the center. Then the Trust nominates and votes to allow five members of the Trust to continue serving on the Trust. Next, the Trust listens to several reports from the different committees. Other topics include: discussing sponsors for the Sunset Toast, the CABLE-Tap production schedule, and an update about the oral history documentary. One of the public's concerns about the oral history documentary is that many people who "lived" Miami's history believe that some of the oral histories are inaccurate. Next, the Trust listens to a presentation from the Marketing Committee regarding the local NBC 6's coverage of Virginia Key Beach for Black History Month, and listens to the committee's presentation about the Sunset Toast event. Next, the Trust listens to updates about the nature and environmental summit event that will take place on April 9, 2005 at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, and how to market the park in the environmental community. The Trust also discusses the upcoming architectural design competition for the planned museum and cultural center. Next, the Trust listens to concerns brought forth by the Trust members. Some of the issues are: naming rights for the Virginia Key Beach Museum and Cultural Center, the potential impact of federal budget cuts on the Army Corps of Engineer's projects at Virginia Key Beach, and coordinating the Historic Virginia Key Beach projects with the "mega project" (possibly the Virginia Key Master Plan) taking place across Virginia Key. Finally, the Trust listens to the Executive Director's report given by David Shorter.
