General Note:
Saunders grew up in the segregated Overtown neighborhood. She remembers her childhood as fun and delightful, and her neighborhood as one composed by a scope of hardworking people looking after each other. Virginia Key Beach was important to her community, a special place to visit. She brings up some of the park's features, and its role in Miami and especially within African American society.
