General Note:
The video opens with various shots of the Virginia Key Beach carousel, the Virginia Key Beach Park Master Site Plan, the beach, and the Bear Cut channel. Then the video shows M. Athalie Range welcoming everyone to Virginia Key Beach. Next, Miami Commissioner Arthur Till takes the stage and is joined by former Miami mayor Maurice Ferre. The men present a proclamation announcing that the city of Miami will make July 3, 2004 "Sneak a Peek Day" to honor two hundred years of Haitian independence. Then Gene Tinnie gives the history behind Virginia Key that led to its preservation and restoration. Following Tinnie's talk, they introduce members from Miami's "pioneer Haitian families," who will share their stories with the crowd. Commissioner Till then returns to the stage to present a commendation to Marsha Saunders, who accepted the award on behalf of the Dorsett family. Then attorney Bob McKennie and Ada Mae came forward to share their stories about their family, the McKinnie family.
