|a The video begins with a performance by Florida Memorial University's Chorale Ensemble, followed by David Shorter, the Executive Director of Virginia Beach Park giving a speech to the crowd. Following Shorter’s speech, Miami’s NBC 6's Trina Robinson takes the stage to introduce Catherine Hummingbird Ramirez (CHECK) to perform a "traditional blessing ceremony" to open the park. Following the ceremony, Boy Scout Troop 247 presents the United States flag and sings the Pledge of Allegiance. The next part of the recording is damaged and missing. When the video resumes, the Chorale Ensemble of Florida Memorial University returns to the stage to sing the "National Negro Anthem." After the anthem concludes, Bishop Victor T. Curry, the pastor of the New Baptist Church, and President of the Miami-Dade Branch of the NAACP provides the invocation for the ceremony. Curry’s invocation appears to be missing from the recording, as this part of the film might be damaged. The video resumes with Gene Tinnie, Chair of the Virginia Key Park Trust, taking the stage to introduce the Virginia Key Beach Trust board members. Then Kendrick B. Meek provides the closing remarks of the opening ceremony, but his remarks appear to be a part of the damaged film. Next, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Carlos Gimenez can be seen making his remarks. The ceremony ends with the reopening of Virginia Key Beach and the proclamation that February 22 will be known as Historic Virginia Key Beach and Park day. |
