Abstract:
Three women smile for the camera from one of the wagons of the miniature train at Virginia Key Beach Park. At the front is Athalie Range, a civil rights activist and politician. She was the first African-American to serve on Miami's City Commission and the first woman, and African-American since Reconstruction, to head a Florida state agency. To the right is Eugenia B. Thomas, the Vice-Chair of the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust, who was also the first black president of Florida's Parent Teach Association and a lifelong advocate for children. ( en )
