Notes
General Note:
Lithograph print entitled "Zarapha, the Ancient Sarepta," which depicts a shepherds with goats in the foreground overlooking people farming in the valley below, and settlements along the river and up in the mountains in the background. The print was included as part of the book prior to being acquired by Brown. This album is one of three books prepared by prisoners at Fort Jefferson during the Civil War, probably in 1864, and given to Captain H. D. Brown of the 110th New York Volunteers as a wedding present. They contain pressed specimens of marine flora native to the Dry Tortugas. The books were purchased by the National Park Service in June 1947 from J. J. Lipsey, a book dealer from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Lipsey obtained the albums from Mrs. Frank Perkins of Colorado Springs, who was the daughter of Captain Brown.
