Abstract:
Stamped stainless steel crown, made by Juan Gonzalez, with stainless steel tools hanging down from rim on chains. Stamped mermaid cutout on top of crown. The crown is for the orisha deity Yemoja, the "mother of all waters," particularly the ocean. The tools hanging from the crown are part of Yemoja paraphernalia, and empower the deity. This piece was commissioned and purchased especially for Historical Museum of Southern Florida (HistoryMiami Museum) exhibit, "At the Crossroads: Afro-Cuban Orisha Arts in Miami," February 23- August 8, 2001.
