Abstract:
Shibiriki (implement) for Ogun made by toolmaker Juan Gonzalez. Black metal tools hanging (20 in all - mainly farming implements). This shibiriki is a set of "tools" for the Orisha deity Ogún, the god of iron and war. Tools form part of an orisha's paraphernalia and "empower" the deity. Ogún accepts only iron implements/tools. This piece was commissioned and purchased especially for Historical Museum of Southern Florida (HistoryMiami Museum) exhibit, "At the Crossroads: Afro-Cuban Orisha Arts in Miami," February 23- August 8, 2001.
