Abstract:
Shows Grant Stockdale and others putting up banners for the Crusade for Freedom campaign in front of the F. W. Woolworth store on Flagler Street. Photo ran in the Miami News, September 27, 1951.The Crusade for Freedom (1950-1965) was a Cold War campaign launched during President Eisenhower's administration to combat the perceived threat of the Soviet Union's growing sphere of influence in Europe and around the world. One of its missions was to provide funding for radio broadcasts to counteract anti-United States propaganda. Parades and meetings were across the United States and citizens were given the opportunity to sign the Freedom Scroll. ( en )
