|a Roger Grant reminisces about the fashionable and glamorous era of Miami Beach in the 50s and 60s when the hotels were full of celebrities and first-class entertainers and people dressed up to go shopping on Lincoln Road. His parents, uncle, and grandparents built hotels on Miami Beach and from the time he was 12 he went to nightclubs with his family on extended visits from Baltimore. He recalls in great detail the variety of restaurants, some of which were “restricted” to Gentiles only. Mr. Grant moved permanently to Miami Beach in 1971. He mentions Tony Goldman’s hotel “Lucky’s, which opened in Goldman’s hotel Park Central, as one of the best during the Beach’s revival in the 90s. He talks about Anita Bryant and the campaign against gays and lesbians in the 70s. |
