Abstract:
Buildings on Avenue D (now Miami Avenue), from left: John Sewell Shoe Store and Joseph B Reilly Real Estate, John ___ Tailor, The Lobby Pool and Billiard Parlor, Raulerson Brothers Meat Market, Florida Western Meats. Miami's business district started on Avenue D (Miami Avenue). On July 28, 1896, on the second floor of the Lobby, residents met and voted to incorporate as a city. Joseph Reilly became the first mayor. Most of these buildings burned in the December 1896 fire. ( en )
