Abstract:
John Collins standing next to a palm tree on Miami Beach. Beginning in the 1890s, Collins bought land on Miami Beach, planted mango and avocado groves, and grew tomatoes and potatoes for northern markets. With his adult children and Carl Fisher, he built the Collins Bridge in 1913, the first bridge from the mainland to Miami Beach. ( en )
