Notes

General Note:
Charles W. Pierce (July 16, 1864 – July 10, 1939) was a barefoot mailman, postmaster, and Boynton community leader. His memoir Pioneer Life in South Florida was published posthumously, and in 1981 he was named by the Florida Department of State and the Florida League of Cities as a "Great Floridian." Yallahs Wallack was the daughter of two travelling performers, Walter Hope "Watty" Wallack and Fannie Peterson Wallack. In the 1880 census, she is living in Key West with a family named Patterson, and noted as being their adopted daughter. Her son later reported that she was a teacher in Lemon City (Miami) before marrying Charles Pierce in early 1896 and moving with him to Boynton, where she had a son, Charles Leon Pierce in late 1896. She died in 1921. Charles Leon Pierce (1896-1966) was the son of Charles W. Pierce and Yallahs Wallack Pierce. He spent his career as a banker in Fort Lauderdale.
