General Note:
Dr. Samuel Lamar Wright, Sr. (b. 1953), son of Samuel and Lavina (Deal) Wright, served as the first Black city council member in 1981-1984. Prior to his election, he was also a founding member and later President of the Concerned Citizens Voter's League of Boynton Beach. He went on to become Assistant Director and Head Start Director at Palm Beach County's Division of Community Action, then Dean and Adjunct Professor at University of South Florida and founder of the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival. In retirement, he is President/CEO of Dr. Samuel L. Wright Consulting, LLC.
