Notes

Abstract:
In the 1940s and 50s polio, like COVID19, little was known about polio and how it was transmitted.Polio was a killer that left its victims, mostly young, crippled by weakened muscles, causing paralysis. In 1955, Dr. Jonas Salk developed a vaccine that gave protection from the the disease. Since then polio has been practically eliminated around the world. COVID19 is a virus, like polio. The search for a vaccine is as furious as that which resulted in the polio vaccine. Bette Baron Bernstein's experiences were recorded as part of the Miami Beach Visual Memoirs Project funded under a grant from the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority.
