Notes

Scope and Content:
John Arthur Pancoast is the great-grandson of John Collins, the Quaker farmer from New Jersey whose business collaboration with Carl Fisher started the development of Miami Beach as a resort mecca. Pancoast’s father Arthur, built the Pancoast Hotel, the first luxury resort hotel located on the Atlantic shoreline. Pancoast talks about his family of architects and landscape designers and how Collins’ son-in-law, Thomas Pancoast, became one of the most influential shakers and movers in early Beach history. Pancoast talks about the luxury hotel culture and the care his father extended to his guests, who came annually for extended holidays. Pancoast shows china made expressly for the Pancoast Hotel and a variety of promotional brochures and flyers.
