Notes

Scope and Content:
Manuel “Manny” Meland and his family of hotel owners were the originators of the “condo conversion” period, which started in the 70s when tourism slowed down and former visitors became residents on Miami Beach. Meland talks about his first hotel purchases and the original Lum’s which was located on one of his properties. At one time his family owned 22 properties, including the Algiers, the Charles, and the Atlantis Hotel. He tells a brief family history of origins in Poland, moving to Montreal, and then to Miami.
