General Note:
Cullen Pence and wife Emma Ewing Pence, posed for a portrait. Historical note: Cullen Pence (1874-1910) was an early pioneer of Boynton Beach, having built one of the first houses in Boynton Beach. He was significant in installing the first water system, and was very active in the community until his death in 1910 from a self-inflicted gunshot (whether accidental or suicide is unknown). Emma Pence Ewing (1885-1967) moved to West Palm, operated a boarding house, and remarried Norman K. Bennett in 1921.
