Notes

General Note:
Exterior of the restaurant Lucille and Otley's on Federal Highway/U.S. 1. Historical note: Lucille and Otley's started in Briny Breezes in 1935 as a pie shop. Soon it was expanded and serving meals. After a brief hiatus during WWII, it reopened in 1945 as the Snack Shack, then moved to the Boynton Casino. Then in 1948, it reopened at 1021 S. Federal Highway where it was managed by the Otley family until closing in 1998. The building is now the city's senior center. A 1992 Oral History with Lucille and Otley Scott is available. Topics discussed include their experiences in Boynton Beach during the Great Depression (1930s), the establishment and operation of their restaurant business (1936-1941, 1945-1978), Otley’s experience in the 1928 Hurricane, and Boynton Beach during World War II.
