Notes

General Note:
Taxidermied whaleshark on a railcar. Historical note: Charter boat Captain Charles Thompson caught a 38 ft. whaleshark between Miami and the Florida Keys in the summer of 1912. After working with taxidermists to preserve and mount the skin over a frame, the fish was exhibited throughout the U.S. by rail and boat and reputedly becoming an exhibit in Capt. Lin G. Greene's Marine Museum. This was the first official North American account of a whaleshark, a gentle creature that little was known about until the 1990s. It's unknown if the whaleshark was exhibited in Boynton Beach.
