Left to right: Joan McCauley, Miss December; Bonnie Bornburg, Miss January; Bonnie Crill, Miss February; Sandy Lain, Miss March; and Sharon Smith, Miss April. Historical note: The Gulfstream Mermaid Pageant, the original "Miss Boynton Beach" pageant, was first held in 1956 and was sponsored by the Boynton Beach Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Winter Fishing Tournament. Five young women were chosen, one representing each of the winter months, and in April, one contestant was chosen "Miss Boynton Beach." In 1962, the Chamber stopped sponsoring the pageant and the tournament. A new pageant was inaugurated 1964, directed by the Junior Woman's Club.
