Historical note: Built by Andrew Freedland in 1909 using wood from the shipwrecked Coquimbo, the hotel was first called the Freelund Hotel. It was then purchased by Willis and Loretta Funk and renamed the Vera Hotel after their daughter. In 1911, the property was purchased from the Funks by B. C. Hodges. In 1915, the hotel was purchased by Ohio native Buck Muster and renamed the Buckeye State Hotel. Close to the railroad station, it provided more affordable lodgings for travellers than the Boynton Hotel. In the 1930s, the property was purchased by Bertha Chadwell and renamed the Palm Lodge Apartments. It was demolished in the spring of 1972.
