General Note:
The Brooks family were original settlers in Biscayne Bay, as it was called then. In 1890 they were the first family to settle in the Piney Woods homesteads of Biscayne, now the business district of Miami Shores. Polly Brooks started the first Sunday school in the area. She was the mother of Eliza Carolina Brooks Lewis and the wife of William Frederick Brooks. She was buried beside her husband at the side yard of their home later to be moved to the Miami City Cemetery. Source: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/43358276/mary-ann-brooks
