Notes

Abstract:
Sabrina Cohen is an activist for the disabled who was born and raised on Miami Beach. When Sabrina was in her freshman year at Miami Beach High she was involved in a car accident that left her a quadriplegic; wheelchair bound for the rest of her life. She had been an athlete prior to the accident so she had to reconstruct her life to deal with her new reality. She has been an advocate for physical fitness for the disabled and other quality of life issues and a promoter of stem cell research. She is a life coach and the founder of the Sabrina Cohen Foundation, which is currently raising funds for the first fully accessible beach park and playground adapted for the disabled. A major draw will be full access to the surf for wheelchair users by means of waterproof wheelchairs adapted for the beach and water. The project, Allison Park, is attracting international attention for its innovations. She is pleased with the general accessibility on Miami Beach and is well-known at City Hall and in civic circles.
