Abstract:
“Traditional” communities of today have become more vulnerable to climate change due to the constraints of modernity. Still, traditional knowledge and the longerterm perspectives provided by history and archaeology reveal alternatives to the technocratic approaches of modern, western societies (see Reid et al. 2006). Archaeological records have potential to provide data on: • paleoenvironmental change, the anthropogenic contribution to change, and human responses to change • how perceptions of change are shaped by experience, and how such perceptions inform action • the role of place and place-making in community formation and resilience ( English )
