Notes

Abstract:
Lucita Jean's interview provides a detailed account of her life journey, focusing on her experiences in Haiti, Nassau, and her eventual settlement in the United States. Born in 1946 on the island of La Tortue, Haiti, she describes a challenging upbringing where work dominated her family’s life. Her quest for a better life led her to Nassau, Bahamas, where she had three children but faced significant financial difficulties. Eventually, she emigrated to the U.S. in the late 1970s, overcoming immense hardship, including a harrowing sea journey, to build a new life in South Florida. Lucita reflects on her experiences raising her children, her spiritual commitment, and the difficulties of immigrant life. She shares how her faith and perseverance helped her raise her children, who eventually succeeded in the United States. The interview highlights themes of migration, resilience, and the power of faith in the face of adversity.
