Notes
Abstract:
Miami Archaeologist Bob Carr, Director of the Archaeological and Historical Conservancy, discusses his work as the first archaeological excavation in Arch Creek, which played a significant role in the preservation and acquisition of the site. He provides details about Arch Creek Military Trail - the first Miami Dade County road and its connection with the US Army officer and general in the American Civil War, Abner Doubleday. He recalls visiting Arch Creek as a teenager, already interested in Archaeology when the site was a Trailer Park. Other details discussed include the first Tequesta burial discovered in his first excavation, archaeologist Dan Laxson’s work at the park, and the work and commitment of Arch Creek Trust to preserve the site and raise awareness of local heritage and environment.
