Abstract:
In this oral history from the World AIDS Museum and Educational Center, Jay Wynn shares his journey with HIV awareness, beginning with the death of a former partner which led him to seek education about HIV. Growing up in Detroit, he initially saw HIV as a death sentence specific to the gay community. His views evolved after attending the "Man to Man" workshop in Phoenix, Arizona, where he learned that people with HIV can live healthy lives. Jay's involvement grew from participant to facilitator, focusing on reducing stigma and spreading accurate information. Despite advances in treatments like PrEP, he acknowledges ongoing challenges in addressing misinformation and advocates for continued education.
