Abstract:
The interview conducted by Edwin Shepherd with Dr. Larry Capp at the Historic Hampton House explores the cultural and civil rights heritage of Miami, with a particular focus on the role of the Hampton House in the community. As a Miami native who grew up in public housing and attended public schools, Dr. Capp shares his personal experiences of the city's evolution from the segregation era to the present day. He emphasizes the importance of the Hampton House as a social hub for Black celebrities and activists, including Martin Luther King Jr. and Muhammad Ali, and its transformation into a cultural landmark.
