Abstract:
Dominique St. Victor interviews George Gadson on June 30, 2022 at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center. George Gadson was born on August 10, 1953 in Fort Meade, Florida. Gadson discusses the ancestry of his parents and the segregation in schools during his childhood. He was the co-editor of the student newspaper in high school. Gadson attended and graduated Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in Theology. Prior to his last year at Duke University, he studied abroad at the University of Valencia, in Spain. After college, he worked at a bank in management and enrolled in an art class to learn how to paint. He explains his work with children in the community and mentions his involvement with the United Negro College Fund Regional Council in South Florida. Additionally, George Gadson describes his creation of “The Bridge” sculpture for the opening of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center on October 26, 2002.
