|a Mr. Housmann is a Venezuelan immigrant whose passion for theater led him to New York to study at Columbia University. After working in the theater in the northeast, he made decided to come to South Florida because of its diversity and vibrant arts scene. He believes Miami reflects what U.S. demographics will look like in the future and offers an opportunity to connect deeply on an artistic level with the South Florida community. He formed New Miami Drama and in 2016, he became the Artistic Director of the Colony Theater on Lincoln Mall. He talks about the Colony’s past as a cinema and its new direction as a venue for new works which provoke conversations on key political issues. He talks about holding the premiere of the Academy Award winning film MOONLIGHT at the Colony and the play ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI, about to open, which is set in the Hampton House Motel on the evening of a young Cassius Clay winning the heavyweight boxing title. The play deals head-on with the racism which prevented Clay (Muhammed Ali) from celebrating on Miami Beach. |
