Abstract:
The documentary “'An Unfinished Dialogue' between Vaclav Havel and Oswaldo Paya" contains interviews with human rights advocates Rosa-Maria Paya and Orlando Pardolazzo, Cuban rock band “Porno Para Ricardo”, and musician Arturo Sandoval. Paya was the founder of the Cuban Christian liberation movement and was considered the “face of Cuban dissent”. Havel, being a strong activist for human rights as well, became close friends with Paya over the years. As Cuba enters over 50 years of dictatorship under the Castro regime, the activists interviewed implore other young Cubans to leave their communist country and visit others around the world, like the Czech Republic, that have successfully overcome corruption and oppression. Highlighted in this film, the “Trutnoff Open Air Festival” allows attendees to enjoy passionate politically driven music as well as open dialogues about the previous corruption in the Czech Republic, human rights issues in Cuba and the legacy left behind by both Havel and Paya that can hopefully ignite change within the young Cuban generation.
